Electric Brake Repair

Your brakes are one of the most essential components of your vehicle. This is why we only use high-quality parts when repairing your brake system back. Working off of an estimate, you decide what work is to be completed. You choose the brake service plan that is right for your vehicle and its performance.

Electric Brakes

The components of an Electric Brake System consists of a backing plate which houses the essential braking components: magnets, magnet lever arm, brake shoes, springs, and the brake drum.  The backing plate is fixed to the end of the axle and wired to the 12-volt plug of the trailer which connects to the vehicle. When an electrical current is provided from the vehicle, the magnet is energized and tries to stick to the face of the brake drum.  Due to rotation of the wheel, the magnet moves the lever arm in the same direction. This movement forces the primary brake shoe against the drum. The force of the primary shoes, in turn, pushes the secondary brake shoes against the drum to complete the braking sequence.  The amount of braking effort will depend upon the level of current flowing to the magnet, and this is determined by the brake controller fitted in the vehicle.

How do I know I need my brakes repaired?

We’ve all heard it – that squeaking or grinding sound when your car or truck is coming to a stop. These sounds are good indicators you may need new brake pads and/or rotors. Your brakes may also show some other signs that a brake repair is required, such as:

  • Spongy brake pedal or any noticeable change to the way your brakes feel when you push on them
  • The car pulls to one side when braking
  • Car vibrates when braking
  • The car takes longer than usual to come to a stop. With a complete brake evaluation, we can determine just what your brakes need for better stopping power.
